The depiction of Moses lifting a serpent on the staff is a symbolic representation of the Savior on the cross. The children of Israel would be made whole if only they would look upon the serpent. As children of God, we too can be saved if we look to Christ and follow his teachings. The artist beautifully depicts the consequences of the figure’s actions in the expression of their faces and the intensity of their emotion. This is the artist’s reminder that there are circumstances in life that bring pain and sorrow, but by looking to the Savior, and showing our faith, we can have a hope in a better life.
